The Eastern Cape Horse Care Unit started in the Nelson Mandela Metro, Port Elizabeth, in June 2006 as a branch of the Highveld Horse Care Unit. It was perceived by a number of concerned residents that there was a dire need for education of horse and donkey owners in the Metro.
